Robert Neeld
Democrat for Congress
The Issues
More than ever, people with disabilities can enjoy
fuller, more productive lives if they receive the right opportunity
and support – that is, if the GOP in Congress stops attacking
programs for the disabled with budget cuts.
Make no mistake about it: the Republican Party’s
strategy to cut Medicare and Medicaid jeopardizes vital programs
designed to help millions of Disabled Americans achieve equal
access to quality public education, jobs, housing, and telecommunications.
As your Representative in Congress, I’ll
strengthen Medicaid and Medicare programs for Disabled Americans.
I’ll also work hard to see that businesses, developers and
landlords are held to their legal obligations under the Americans
With Disabilities Act (ADA) on issues such as equal access to
places of public accommodation, quality housing, job training
programs, telecommunications, and the work place.
According to Congressional studies, about 50 million
Americans currently have one or more physical or mental disabilities.
Many among these are kids in public schools that
require specialized programs of instruction and specialized training
in order to achieve a life blessed with opportunity and independence.
Republicans, however, slashed funds from the Individuals
With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) – the law, with a
proven track record, that underwrites many of these specialized
programs.
As your Representative, I’ll fight hard to
get these cuts restored so that kids with special needs get the
quality public education that they deserve. I’ll also work
hard so that their parents and guardians continue to have strong
voice for advocacy within their local school districts.
The Far Right in control of the Congress must be
stopped from enacting tax giveaways for the wealthiest Americans
while they continue to undermine programs such as ADA and IDEA
through inadequate funding.
