Alternative to War

The United State’s aggressive foreign policy must change. We must seek to relieve suffering in the world. Current foreign policy creates misery for millions of people throughout the world. After more than forty years the Cuban people have suffered under the embargoes and sanctions of the U.S. The communist dictator still survives nourished and well fed. Cuba’s citizens live in poverty deprived of proper nutrition and comforts of life. Maintaining diplomatic relations and free trade with the Cuban government would have prevented this oppressive blight and may have provided the necessary incentives to change Castro’s regime.

U.S. policy is inconsistent. The U.S. has free trade with China a much more powerful communist country with nuclear capability. Our government has used many third world countries for our benefit and deserted them when we got what we wanted. We aided Afghanistan against Russia. When the Russians left, we walked away. Sanctions were lifted on Pakistan when we needed them to fight against the Taliban. We did nothing about Korea’s development of nuclear weapons.

To win against the terrorist we must:

Stop our aggressive behavior and establish a relationship of trust and cooperation with all nations.

We must maintain a strong military force; keep constant surveillance over all foreign nations.

We must use our power and resources as a benevolent influence.

We must maintain dialog with all nations and know their most pressing problems and needs.

Offer humanitarian aid under U.S. supervision to all nations.

Lift the embargoes and sanction that cause the suffering of the masses.

Seek the cooperation of all nations to stop the international arms trade.

Be a leader of the United Nations and pay our dues.

We must win the respect of all people of the world by exhibiting love and compassion.
We must see ourselves as others see us. It maters not what is truth but what is perceived truth. We must change our image. It will take generations to cleanse the hate. There is no quick solution. War will only prolong hate and create more terrorists. Destroy our enemies by making them our friends.
