A message to my Friends in Florida's 14th Congressional District dated August, 2005.
The following letter to the editor appeared in
the Naples Daily News on Friday, September 3.
Editor, Naples Daily News:
Although name recognition, lots of money and split
votes among his opponents may have contributed to his primary
victory, there is one decisive factor that put Connie Mack over
the top.
He best captured the essence of what makes a great
political television ad. Play to the apparently boundless stupidity
of the voting public by: 1. Being entirely content-free and saying
absolutely nothing of significance; 2. Demonstrating that the
candidate has completely mastered the art of flag-waving; 3. Coming
up with as many other apple-pie platitudes as possible within
30 seconds.
His remarkable ability to spout meaningless bromides
is as breathtaking as it is self-evident, showing total control
of Point 1.
Regarding Points 2 and 3: He, with jaw set and
eyes looking to the horizon, actually asserted with conviction
that he supports patriotism and is in fact (gasp) patriotic himself.
His education policy's centerpiece of having kids recite the Pledge
of Allegiance every day was especially inspiring. Wow.
His unequivocal backing of family values, his courageous
stance stating that he is against terrorism and his audacious
belief in lower taxes staked out territory that his three opponents
could only envy, since his positions almost automatically indicated
that they in all probability favored promiscuity, cowered in the
face of terrorism and thought higher taxes were great.
Well done, Connie.

CAPE CORAL, FEB. 11 –
Here is a statement from Robert M. Neeld, Democratic candidate

For the first time in our nation’s history,
the president and his party are offering an amendment to the U.S.
Constitution that would cut our freedom.

amendment would clearly set our Constitution on a collision course
